AI-Assisted Writing Policy

AI-Assisted Writing Policy

Transparent and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence in academic writing.

JIET acknowledges the growing role of Artificial Intelligence tools in academic writing and adopts a transparent, disclosure-based policy in line with COPE's position statement on AI in scholarly publishing.

Policy Statement

  • Authors are permitted to use AI-based tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Grammarly AI, Quillbot, etc.) to assist in the preparation of their manuscripts.
  • AI tools may be used for language improvement, grammar checking, paraphrasing, literature search assistance, data visualization, and formatting support.
  • AI tools must NOT be used to generate substantive research content, fabricate data, produce fraudulent citations, or replace genuine intellectual contribution by the authors.
  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors, as they do not meet the criteria for authorship (they cannot take responsibility for the work, provide consent, or be held accountable).

Mandatory Disclosure

  • Authors must disclose the use of any AI tool in a dedicated "AI Disclosure Statement" section in their manuscript, placed before the References section.
  • The disclosure must specify: (1) which AI tool(s) were used, (2) the version/model, (3) the purpose of use, and (4) the extent of use.
  • Failure to disclose AI usage constitutes a breach of publication ethics and may result in manuscript rejection or post-publication retraction.

Disclosure Template

Authors should use the following template to declare the use of AI tools in their manuscript:

AI Disclosure Statement:
"The authors used [Tool Name, e.g., ChatGPT-4, Claude 3.5 Sonnet] for [specific purpose, e.g., language editing, grammar improvement, paraphrasing assistance]. The authors reviewed and edited all AI-generated output and take full responsibility for the content of this manuscript."

Editorial Review

  • Editors and reviewers may use AI detection tools as part of the review process.
  • Detected but undisclosed AI usage will be treated as a potential ethics violation and handled in accordance with COPE guidelines.
